Prog-metal geeks have their arguments, just like superfans of any other subgenre, but most concur that Tool, Meshuggah and this Swedish five-piece are about as forward-thinking as anything the mainstream has to offer. Opeth leader Mikael Γkerfeldt is well-known as a '70s vinyl enthusiast and manages to streamline his disparate influences into visceral metal suites that convey grandeur and danger rather than the self-indulgence that plagues so many of his peers.
