In the mid to late 1950s, AM radio was king and there were several artists that recorded singles aimed at a teenage audience who were caught up in the new sounds of rock n' roll. Along with singers such as Bobby Rydell, Dion, and Neil Sedaka - Vinnie Monte was one of the most popular crooners of the day who had several memorable singles recorded for a variety of labels beginning in the mid-1950s. At the time, these singers were referred to as teen idols. The height of popularity with this type of pop music was the late 1950s and lasted through the early 1960s. Featured here is Monte's rare classic 1959 single "Excite Me" b/w "A Freshman With A Senior Dream," which features a rocker with a Latin beat on the A side and a cute rock/ballad with a catchy vocal chorus on the flip. Originally released on the New York City based Decanter Records label, this rare single is presented here freshly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.
